Shift changes
Posted by Ann - 03:26 PM 21.02.13
I am a permenant employee at a small cub, the board is thinking about changing the opening hours. This means that I will have to work up to 11 hrs on 1 day, 10 on another day & 8 on a 3rd. all without a break as these day are the total of the new opening hrs of the club, I will have to work every weekend. I have tried to explain that these hours are to long without a breat & unfair to me as a person to have to work every weedend, I do have a social life, now I am thinking it might be better for me to just resign. I have been the manager there for neally 3 yrs. I dont think this is fair.

Boss withhold my week pay
Posted by Jo - 09:52 AM 21.02.13
i am full time on probation, this is my 7th week, i never signed any contract or give manual book. My boss been withholding my pay for 2 days and maybe more as next pay day is Tuesday next week. They are doing it under impression that I was about to leave without notice. He require me to get a dr's certificate and to call him everyday while I am being away. I called back and can provide doctor's certificate. In this situation I am worried if I come back and work they will not pay me fully/ do everything to retain me there. Do I just let go my pay and start finding a new job? Or continue working until I get my pay? Which is quite risky since I know they will do things to retain me, they have relatively high labour turnover as well. What should I do now? Thank you.

I was accepted as a casual employee at McDonalds in October last year, but I still haven't been rostered. Although I have called them two or three times asking to be rostered, they say they will get back to me but never do. Is this even allowed?

Sexual harrasment
Posted by Caryn - 07:13 PM 19.02.13
A colleague called my boyfriend while she was at work and told him I was seeing a tradesman working at workplace. She was forced to resign as a result. Then my boss told me I had to attend a meeting with the tradesmans boss to discuss the incident even though I said I prefer not to as I was uncomfortable and embarrassed by the whole thing. He then emailed me saying I had to attend the meeting and stared going on about how it has affected him and the business, he was completely implying that I had brought the issue on myself!!! Can I do anything about this??.?.?.

I have a friend that works at a furniture manufacturing business. He started last august on a 3 month trial, and was told that after that he would be permanent. That still hasnt happened. What the problem is that his employer just phones him and tells him he doesnt need him to work, and this happens on a regular basis (as in weeks. What can he do?

guns but no roses
Posted by Matilda - 03:39 PM 12.02.13
I am a carer. Recently I started with a client who told me he keeps a gun in a locked trunk in his home. I asked my employers if this was true or not, & received no answer. My employer later asked me to find the key to the trunk, and see if there is a gun in there. I chose not to. Yesterday I sought advice from Police & Weapons Licensing, & learned that the client, although medically diagnosed mentally incapacitated, has a current firearms licence & weapon registered. This is illegal & unsafe. I advised my employer. The Police also advised that it would be illegal to open the trunk, as I am unlicensed to handle or access firearms. I am shocked that my employer has failed to manage OH&S in this matter for a number of years. I am concerned that they have sent carers into the home, knowing there may be a gun there. Late yesterday my employer contacted me to say that as I evidently have fears for my safety, they won’t send me back to the client until the gun is located. I wonder if my employer has advised stand-in carers about the current situation. Today I have no work. Should my employer compensate me for today's lost income, even though I am a casual employee? What can I do about their actions and inaction?

Illegal payment
Posted by Nero - 03:37 PM 02.02.13
I am a 28 year old graduate who's currently doing part-time jobs. I got a call from 7-11 where located at city about overnight job interview. I've been there and a Taiwanese manager interviewed me and said would pay me 15$ for a 8 hrs overnight shift. He was aware of that it's not proper payment for a 28-year-old to do overnight job. But I still eagerly wanted to take the job . And he gave me one day to think about the arrangement of the shifts for each week and answer him the next day. But the next day I called dozens of times and he and the other female manager wouldn't ansewer at the same time. Then I realized he asked me whether I know any friends who work overnight at 7-11 and how much they get paid, I told him yes and my friend gets 15$ per hr for overnight shifts and he's even under-age. Before all of this I've heard that some 7-11s owned by Chinese or Taiwanese in City paid even less than 10$ per hr. I suspect it was probably a lie that he said he would pay me 15$. I know there's nothing can be done at this circumstances because he never hired me. But I'd feel better if I tell this story, I even turned another offer down because of his lies !
