I work in a specialist doctors practise. The practise manager (his wife) will call us in for "discussions", usually disciplinary. She tells us not to discuss what she has said with our co-workers as it is confidential. Is it confidential and are we within our rights to discuss what she has said amongst ourselves? |

I have worked in wildlife for many years and within the volunteer organisations through out Australia there is no independent body that protects the volunteer. why is their not a labor right/workers right group that protects us in our job. Why are we not entitled to a union of such? I understand we are unpaid however I fail to see why we have no one to protect us against bullying in the work place for one example. Could you please explain this to me how it would ever be possible to have a independant body that protected our rights ?? thankyou for your time. |

| Pay Discrepancy |

I had to reapply for my role and another identical role was also advertised. Recently i found out that my colleague who was employed roughly at the same time and has an identical role was given a pay rise after 3month probation review. We both started at the same (SACHS award) level/year of pay, the award rate level year and pay rate was advertised on the job application package, so we were both aware of what the other was payed. My manager favoured my fellow colleague, she was less accountable and had access to the company vehicle during and outside of work hours etc etc. So after one year my fellow colleague quit her job and moved onto a higher payed role in government. It was brought to my attention that she was bumped from year 1 pay to year 4 pay after her 3month probation. I have remained on the same pay bracket, i never had my review after 3months nor was I given an opportunity for a review. In fact till this day i still haven't signed my employment contract. I think its unfair that special treatment was given to another employee doing equal value of work. On what basis can this happen... and what can i do about it. |

my daughter was working for a financial planner who sold out to another Coy and has now been told that they are not entitled to long service leave. Should these entitlements carry accross to the new Coy as she is coming up to 10 years service in total |

I believe approx 25,000 junk mail deliverers are operating under sham contracting arrangements. They need help & a body to represent them, they need union protection. Most are being paid well below the minimum wage & generally get terminated if they seek an increase in pay. This action by big companies in this day & age is outrageous & unAustralian. |

I work in one of Australia's largest electrical appliance retail stores and have been in this industry for about 10 years. In all that time no one I have come across has ever been part of a union but I think the staff in our store need some help. We are all paid a lousy base wage and are reliant primarily on commission but our employer makes it as difficult as possible for us to track and claim our commissions we have earnt. We cant access reports that are required for us to claim our commission and we are not allowed to even ask how much we are getting paid. I could go on all day about what I think are unfair conditions but I am not sure about how I should handle these issues. can anyone give me advice? if i join a union and the union can help I know I can have 20 other people join within a week because the staff are so tired of being screwed over and intimidated by management.

Hi, Just wondering if a boss is allowed to force you to wear something you consider to be embarrassing or degrading. In my workplace they want us to offer certain products to customers. If we forget they say we have to wear a embarrassing hat. It is a retail enviroment and I dont feel comfortable dealing with customers when forced to wear this. Can they do this?

I have just left a job where I believed I was employed perm full time. But more recently I have been stood down on days where rain has caused work to be suspended. I work in construction. I receive annual leave and sick days but no pay on public holidays or stand down days. Where can I find out whether I'm full tint perm or part time perm. Would the ATO know?
