just wondering why the parent's union is not taken seriously? There should be respite services for stay at home parents if wanted, many of us are also educated and caring individuals. Some of the duties of a stay at home mother include nursing, shopping, taxi driving, educating, cooking, bathing and cleaning duties. Parents raising our children of our future are barely existing without the care of the community in many cases low income parents will seek foster care to ensure the safety of their much loved children. foster care services are intitled to 24/7 respite services. These children may one day serve the public and private sector of our economy with the help of a stay at home parent. Stay at home parents are undervalued and living on rates less than minimum wage! |

I've been working for Muffin Break in SA for a year now
I was casual up until July this year & since then my hours have been in consist. My rate is $14.36 prhr as I was 19. I just turned 20
while working with my MB I have found i don't get payslips unless I constantly pester for them. I have just received the last 4 months in one hit!
I leave in 3 weeks I handed in my resignation last week but I had advised my boss I was leaving 2months ago so that they could find suitable employees in time to train, they haven't
I finish work in 15 days & just recently I told them I could only work to a certain time during two days of this week When I received my roster they put me on a shift that I cannot work. When I replied saying I could not work I received a, what I call, rude message back. I felt like quitting then @ there.
Months back I told them my availability & they still give me shifts that I cant work. They have also said I should keep an hour or so free after my shift incase i stay back.
I have done a lot for them, I have worked 12 hour days when others don't show up & I work hard. I feel unfairly treated as they constantly blame me for things going wrong or people not showing up & I not being able to cover said shift
main questions are
shouldn't casuals work around the part/full timers? & shouldn't the casuals be called to cover a shift not part timers?
How do I approach them about their treatment of their staff |

| Being forced to work past rostered hours |

I am a casual employee at at a mcdonalds in the ACT. Yesterday I was told I had to stay past my rostered hours to perform a list of jobs. When I told them I did not have to and I was not going to I was given a written warning for "refusing to listen to management" which I refused to sign and she threatened to cut my hours back. Today the same manager kept me working a position alone that I couldn't leave and refused to send me home for 26 mins past my rostered clock-off time, although I sent other staff and management to tell her she needed to send me home. I complained to store management who were sympathetic but didn't seem to grasp the seriousness and I am worried this manager will be allowed to continue to violate mine and other's rights. |

I have been employed as a permanent part time worker (under the general retail award) for 2 years. During that time I have had numerous roster changes and I haven't really had any problems with them. However my company (fairly large Aussie and New Zealand wide company) now want to change my roster so that I get Sundays and Tuesdays off (previously I worked alternate days at the weekend - Saturday one week and Sunday the following week but I always had two days off in a row) with the new roster (and it is strictly non flexible ie no variation allowed) I will basically never have a "weekend" (or two days off in a row) can I refuse this as I sometimes like to go away for a couple of days at a time and now I won't be able to, ever, unless I take a day off and use my annual leave. I have joined a union but only a few days ago and I understand they may not be able to help as it could be classed as a "pre-existing" problem. I haven't yet approached my company because I want to ensure I have all the facts first. Many thanks Andrea |

I started a new job 3 months ago as a receptionist at a corporation, my supervisor changed shortly after I started. And two weeks in, A new accountant was employed & she has been bullying me & bossing me around & as my supervisor has taken up various other roles he has now made the new accountant the deputy supervisor of me. she also has a racist undertone & she stands over a lot of the staff here. The staff have made informal complaints to my supervisor and the CEO. And nothing has changed. And Today I was told by a fellow co-worker that my deputy supervisor is planning on firing me due to my tardiness lately and my being down in another co-workers office majority of the time, shes thinking that im just having a gossip session when I have been actually helping them with a project they are working on. And yes, I do realise the tardiness may be a problem but I’d like to add that it’s never been over 5 minutes late and I pretty much work over time every day, and I work hard, efficiently and get along with the entire staff body except her . I’d also like to add she has been spying on all the staff writing down times that they come and go. And when I refused to do it for her, she went and introduced a sign in and out book, And has placed in just outside her door and made it mandatory that all the staff sign it. And If we don’t our pay will get docked and we won’t get paid for that day. I’m Unsure of what to do… |

I am a fulltime employee working at a cafe. I go under the Restaurant, tearoom and catering awards. I get paid hourly . Lately my employer told me he wants to put me on salary. I have never been on a salary and wants to know if the business opens on a Public Holiday do I get the Public holiday rates (250% i think) . I am suspecting that because with Xmas and New Year coming and the business will be open, my employer doesnt want to pay me the extra. So being a salaried staff does that mean i am paid a flat rate whether I work weekdays or weekends. I told him to give me a think and he isnt very happy about it. |
