Hello,
I am leaving this current job in 2 weeks. And with this company, a few of my colleagues (who have already left a few months ago) have been suing this company for not paying them the last bits (or paid them less).. And now it concerns me whether the company will pay me properly after 2 weeks.. If I join union and if the company does not pay me or less, will union be able to speak for me and get my money back? How will it work? Many thanks for your time. |

How much notice does my employer have to give if they reduce my hours. I am working in a Brisbane office for a firm which has it's head office in Melbourne. We don't have a workplace agreement. |

My boss has made false allegations against me so now I am facing disciplinary action. A date is stated but no witnesses or time of the alleged offence is stated. I told them that the security camera will support my claim that I am innocent. Can I make them watch the footage to see that I am innocent. |

Ineffective support in the work place by the union. It seems with the monopoly they have within this particular industry has led to losing touch with those they represent. Do employees have the right to choose which union they can join. |

I just recently found my employer has been cutting half an hour of pay off each of my shifts as a 'break'. However, I don't take breaks and I wasn't told they would do this. Is this something I can cotend, or should I just take the break that I'm seemingly being forced to? |

| How much sick leave is allowed? |

I work in a kitchen at a hotel which has several kitchens. Last year I was asked to transfer to another kitchen within the hotel and agreed, as I wanted to gain more experience. When i arrived at the kitchen I moved to I soon realised that nobody seemed to like the boss. As a result a lot of people were calling sick fairly often. Among the staff 2 team members were the most often. After a year of these staff calling sick so often the boss had enough and talked with the HR department about how he can discipline the people who call sick very often. They apparently came up with a plan to search staff sick leave records for patterns. If they find a pattern they take you to HR and you receive a verbal or written warning. The staff members who called sick so often always seemed to have medical certificates to back them up. Although it is good now that they are not calling sick so often it has made all the staff too scared to call sick and now they are coming to work and everyone is getting sick. Plus recently I called sick due to an injury sustained outside work and work said they were investigating me for a pattern! I never call sick and when I do I always have a certificate. I feel very stressed from these events and can't take any time off to relax as HR has sided with the boss and we have no one to hear out our side of the story. So thanks to a few people everyone is having to pay the price. Is this legal? |

Last month (October) my family asked me to attend a birthday party for my grandmother in mid November. They asked me to make sure I could get the days off. I needed to R.S.V.P for the party as it cost money to reserve a meal for my partner and I. I then asked my boss and he said "Yes, thats fine. Remind me closer to the date". Last week another of my workmates put in a leave request for the same days off as I had requested. Now the roster is up and I'm rostered to cover the shifts he has requested off. This has happened more than once to me this year. Is it allowed for me to request rostered days off to coincide with events if I give enough notice? If I can not does this mean I can never make plans to do anything without taking annual leave? |
