Can we be forced to transfer to another city?
Posted by J - 08:36 PM 02.10.12
My spouse & I have been working for the same company for 4yrs & 6yrs. The company has a number of offices Australia wide. Our office is suddenly closing, with the boss calling the decision "austerity measures". He has not offered any redundancy package because he says is not sacking us but "transferring" us to an office 1.5-2hrs drive away. As a permanent full time professional employee (who relocated to this region for this job & purchased a home) can we now be demanded to travel an extra 3hrs or more at our own expense with no extra pay? Shouldn't we be given the option of redundancy & if not at least offered re-location assistance? We have only been given 4weeks notice & have to pack/close down the current office to add salt to the wound. It just seems too unfair to be legal...are we expecting too much?

Employer giving out personal phone number
Posted by Geoff - 08:40 PM 01.10.12
I have just started a new job where customers may need to contact me outside work hours. I have asked for a work phone so I can keep my personal mobile number private. They have put my personal mobile number on my email signature, and plan to give it to customers without my consent. Is this legal?

Manager forcing me to take on new tasks
Posted by Ray - 08:19 PM 28.09.12
I am a salary employee (no union at work) My manager is forcing me to maintain a new IT system which was part of her role. I agreed to trial for a week but there is too much for one person to do. I told her I cannot maintain both old and new. There was also verbal agreement with the previous manager who left that i will continue maintaining the old system. Can they forced me into maintaining the new system?

Stress leave
Posted by Rather not say - 01:57 PM 27.09.12
Hi, I work in a call centre for a large company. I am currently on stress leave. I do inbound and also outbound. The company introduced a new program which involves the way we speak. We have to offer strong statements of assistance, ask link benefit questions. We also now have 2 x 10 minute team sessions around a whiteboard twice a week. As I am a reoslutions officer as well this is stressful enough. They have now increased the number of files to be resolved from 26 to 30 a day. The team managers are not very supportive and when we are able to make 30 we are told tomorrow you can try for more. I have been struggling with the new program however have been trying my best. I was informed the time for trying is over and you must move forward. I don't deal well with the micromanagement that has been happening. There are also other factors as in the TM wants to have the best team so bombards us with stats. I ended up leaving in tears and dr put me on stress leave. Now the thought of returning puts my stomach in knots and I feel sick. I lie awake at night trying to think of a solution. Please help. I am an older worker and have never before been in this situation

I am a casual worker at a Hotel Bistro. Recently, there has been a company takeover of the hotel. I have had my shifts cut back to 2 shifts a week from the 6-7 shifts that I was getting. I realise that there has been some staff cutbacks, but no-one else has had their shifts cut as severely as mine. I have been given no explanation as to why, except to say that most workers had their shifts cut. I have never had a problem at work with other staff or management. I have worked hard at work & I feel discriminated against. Where do I stand?

unpaid work
Posted by cassi - 04:04 PM 20.09.12
I currently work in the funeral industry and the business is run by my parents & myself. we cover one of the largest areas in australia just the three of us. not only am i not receiving pay slips, i have no contract with the business and when i ask for any of these things or even a justification on how theyve got the outcome for my pay i am continually brushed off and because i am related to the other two workers i am expected to do over time without pay. currently i have done more days over time than normal days this year. what are my rights.

I would like some help and i am prepared to join your union as i am in desperate need of help.My CEO is putting pressure on me telling me that he is not trying to get rid of me meaning sack but is forcing me to resign i have 13 years of work to go when most staff are nearing retirement.I have been accused of bullying which i find a very serious accusation as i feel my CEO is bullying me talking about me behind me turning staff against me who i have known for more than 10 and 20 years. An investigation must have taken place on my days off last week as i was stood down with pay and have to see an independent HR on tuesday who doesnt know me or my character of 28 rears does this mean she will work with management and my job is on the line.It is more involved and i have letters written as this is not my thing i have had to get family to help me type thank you. letters looking forward to a reply
