What are my entitlements
Posted by Maria - 08:53 AM 06.04.10
I work for Caltex and have seen nothing regarding entitlements. eg. Meal breaks, hourly rates for public holidays or normal hours. At the moment even working a eight hour shift we are not entitled to any breaks. If this correct?

Double Standards
Posted by Sarah - 11:33 AM 05.04.10
I wish to inquire about two matters that i have found puzzling to me in the work place. One is to do with Public Holiday Rates. I understand for easter that Friday and the Monday are public Holidays but have since been notified that Sunday is now too is this Correct and if so what should the pay be for this day? Should it be double or still at the usual sunday rate of time and a half?. The other inquiry i have is that I am good friends with a fellow member of staff and we are finding that rumors are circulation about the nature of our relationship. Which is in turn being told to and noticed by our boss. Because of this he has stopped us working together. At all times we have remained professional and our friendship does not effect or in any way impact our work or they way we do our jobs. But i know of other staff that are actually having Relationships and were it is affecting there work and they are still aloud to work together. I feel this is a bit of Victimisation and a case of double standards. Is This Fair? Does the employer have the right to do this?

split shifts?
Posted by Ron - 09:21 PM 03.04.10
my company has being rostering us on what we call "split shifts" where we are rostered to work from 6am-9am and then again from 3pm-6pm on the same day, leaving us with an unpaid gap of 6 hours inbetween. They say its actually two individual shifts and not a split shift hence they do not have to pay us nor is there a time limit between shifts. Is this right?

Employees not hiring when they say they will.
Posted by Sara - 09:40 PM 01.04.10
I have been in Austraila for about 13years now, I am a criminal justice student and have made Australia my home, in the past few years i have out touch with work as i have made a choice to study in stead, Recently i have got on the horse and started job hunting again and i dont think its right how some employees are simply not hiring anyone but for months they have the jobs still up for grabs and no matter how many times people apply they seem to keep saying the same thing apply online or hand in your resume even when they know you by face from going in there so many times

Unfair Pay Issue
Posted by Pete - 03:44 PM 31.03.10
Our company has recently put on new workers with the same job title and role at a higher pay than most existing workers who have been working successfully in the role for around 2 years plus. Does this seem fair? Our whole team is disappointed.

Am I being discriminated against?
Posted by Gemma - 12:07 PM 31.03.10
I am 24 and have just had my first baby. I have been on unpaid maternity leave since September and I cannot afford to be a stay at home mum any longer. I contacted my employer in December telling him that I would have to return to the work force in April. He said at the time they'd find me something but I just found out this week that they have nothing for me. No job, no work... nothing. I thought they legally had to give me my job back or atleast a job? I'm so confused and I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. Why am I being discriminated against because I decided to start a family? Can anyone help me!!!
