Hi, i've been working in hospitality as a casual employee and i just quit my job. First i would like to know if, as a casual employee, i was entitled to different rates regarding whether i was working during the week or during the week end? also, when i ended my contract and the employer has paid my remaining wage, do i also get a final pay?

Holidays
Posted by Tam - 04:57 PM 06.07.10
Hey, I just wanted to know what are my rights during the Christmas holidays. I started work at the end of May, full time, 40 hrs a week. I asked a person who has worked there for awhile and they said that they are only shut for Christmas day, boxing day and new years day. I have tried looking around in the net to know my rights at work but I can't seem to find anything. Can you please help me to find a document with my rights and help answer my question about my holiday rights please

casual employee

My daughter is 16 and works as a casual shop assistant. She gets paid a flat rate of $10.60. She does not get any extra for afternoon shifts, weekends or public holidays. Is this right?

Breach of contract
Posted by Georgina - 02:47 PM 03.07.10
My employeer has breached my contract by not giving me the hours dictated by this agreement in the period of August 09-Feburary 10. I have only recieved half the hours as said in the contract for about 6 months, and I have been made to now sign a new contract with the hours I currently do. I know I can get compensation for the hours I did not receive under the old contract, but my employeer has 'lost' my contract and this seems to be the only documentation that proves my contracted hours for the period I did not recieve adequate hours last year. What can I do?

Sick pay
Posted by Elouise - 05:30 PM 02.07.10
I recently took a day off sick I only had 3 hours left of sick pay. I was told by my employer because I took 7 hours off and I only had 3 hours left that I would not be paid at all for the day. Not even for the 3 hours I had left. I this right or should I be paid for the first 3 hours and leave without pay after that.

Threat of Dismissal
Posted by Annika - 07:40 AM 02.07.10
I am employed as a Administration Trainee by the Australian Apprenticeship and Traineeship Company Bunbury and have been allocated to work for Austrian Energy & Environment at the Worsley Expansion. In my working environment I am responding to the needs of many people and I find it impossible to satisfy everyone. My job description is confusing and my training has not prepared me adequately to deal with the demands of the job. I raised my concerns to both my Supervisor and Traineeship Officer and received no support. The appraisals that I had are one sided and serve the purpose to increase the employers expectations without sufficient commitment of support or training. This week I was approached by my Supervisor and the Traineeship Officer and received a verbal warning in regards to my performance. The warning was issued with an ultimatum to deliver unachievable expectations within 14 days or face dismissal. I was also asked to keep this discussion between them and me confidential but I feel ambushed and helpless and don't know how to respond. I have always tried to carry out everything I was asked to do willingly and eagerly but I feel discouraged and humiliated and my confidence is at a low. I am not a member of any union but I can certainly see the reasons to be one.

Work Enquiry
Posted by James - 09:05 PM 01.07.10
Hi I just read that the rate of pay for a casual is the rate paid to a permanent employee + loading. I am fairly sure the permanent staff (of the same age) are getting paid more than me, however I am unsure of how to get this information. Is it my right to know? If not how am I to know I am being paid fairly.
