| "We're union members because it means we're protected and we can work together to ensure we all get a better outcome. Good workplaces don't just happen. Members make it happen."

| "I joined a union for the protection it offers because you have someone on your side if there are issues that have to be resolved. It has made a difference. We received benefits, ambulance cover and we were reimbursed for winter clothing as well."

| "If you want to maintain and improve conditions you have to be members of a union. I have three adult children and a partner who are all in unions because they understand that whatever workers have gained over the years, whether its better pay or maternity leave, it's because of unions. "

With the help of Alliance negotiators we were paid a lump sum of $20,000 which represented the back pay we were owed, but the most important thing for me was, it gave us confidence as far as our working rights go – confidence for the future. Without the assistance of the Alliance there’s no way a win or even acknowledgment of any mistreatment could have been possible.

We managed to receive an immediate increase on all salary levels of $1,000 as well as the CPI increases. We are also going to receive a one per cent increase in superannuation contribution over 2010 and 2011. Level 11 choristers were given rewards for their longevity of service by being granted two extra leave days per year.
