Unions Australia is the new national membership and advice service for Australian workers.
No matter what kind of job you do or who you work for, you have the right to be represented by a union.
Sign up online or contact us by phone and we make sure you join the right union for your occupation
and industry.
Each union in Australia specialises in providing support and representation for its members
according to their occupation, industry, employer or location. This means there are many unions,
each with their own way of best advocating for their membership. And while everyone is covered by
a union sometimes it is hard to know the right one. Unions Australia takes the guesswork out of
finding your union. Once you join online or call us we make sure you immediately become a member
of the relevant union for you.
Once you join your application details are collected, including ongoing
membership fee payments via direct debit or credit card. You are then a member of your union from
day one. The administrative side may take some days, but as soon as union coverage is confirmed, your
application details will be securely transferred to your union. You will then receive a letter in the
post and be informed of the union you have joined. Your union will then contact you.
Unions Australia has a standard fee for the first 6 months of membership,
after which the relevant fees for your union will apply. The Unions Australia standard fee is $9 per week
for a full-time worker and $6 per week for a part-time or casual worker earning less than $17,500pa.
Union fees are fully tax deductible and you will either receive a statement at the end of the financial
year, or can use your credit card or debit account statements when filing your tax return.
No, the ACTU is not a registered union. The ACTU is the peak union body that represents the interests
of working Australians and their families at a national level. It cannot represent individual workers
on industrial issues.
